1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit. They help sites remember your preferences, understand how you use the service, and improve your experience over time.
StarFit uses cookies and similar technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage) to keep you signed in, remember your workout progress, and understand which features people find most useful. We do not sell cookie data to third parties.
2. How We Use Cookies
We group our cookies into four categories. The table below explains each category, the specific cookies involved, how long they last, and whether you can turn them off.

Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary. They handle authentication through Better Auth (our auth provider), maintain your session, and protect against cross-site request forgery. Without them, you cannot log in or use the platform. They cannot be disabled.
Analytics Cookies
We use a custom-built analytics tracker. It generates a random anonymous identifier (_sf_aid) stored in localStorage and mirrored as a cookie. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information. It helps us understand page views, feature usage, and general traffic patterns.
Preference Cookies
Preference data is stored in localStorage under the sf: prefix. This includes your selected theme, quiz progress so you can resume where you left off, and workout playback position. Clearing your browser storage will reset these preferences.
Marketing Cookies
We do not currently set any marketing cookies. In the future, we may use Facebook Pixel and Google Ads tags for ad measurement. If and when we do, this policy will be updated and you will be asked for consent before these cookies are placed. California residents can review their opt-out controls on the Your Privacy Choices page.
3. Third-Party Cookies
Some features of StarFit rely on services provided by other companies. These services may set their own cookies. We do not control third-party cookies, but we only work with providers that meet our privacy standards.

4. Managing Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, clear localStorage and sessionStorage, and set preferences for specific websites.
Here is where to find cookie settings in common browsers:
- Chrome:Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari:Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox:Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge:Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in. Disabling analytics or preference cookies will not affect core functionality, but some features like resuming a quiz or remembering your theme choice will stop working.
5. Cookie Retention
We use two types of cookies based on how long they persist:
- Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. These include your session identifier and CSRF token.
- Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period. Our anonymous analytics identifier (
_sf_aid) lasts 1 year. Preference data in localStorage persists until you clear it manually.
We review our cookie usage periodically and remove any cookies that are no longer necessary.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal and regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
